How do solar panels work?
How do solar panels work?
Solar panels convert sunlight to electricity. That electricity is DC (or direct current), and most items in a home use AC (alternating current). Because of this, an additional piece of equipment, an inverter, is installed to convert DC to AC.
What maintenance is required for solar panels?
What maintenance is required for solar panels?
The beauty of solar panels is that they require very minimal maintenance, if any. In the Midwest and Upper South, there is enough rain that panels rarely need to be cleaned. Additionally, all of the major components used in a solar system have 10 to 30-year warranties.
What size solar system do I need for my home?
What size solar system do I need for my home?
The appropriate system size for a solar array is determined based on energy consumption, roof space, plans for the future, and budget. A no-obligation consultation and remote quote is the quickest way to determine the ideal system size.
Can I install solar panels myself?
Can I install solar panels myself?
Because installing a solar panel system involves permitting, working with high voltage electricity, inspections, and interconnection agreements with the local utility, it can be a daunting project to take on if you’re not an electrician.
What permits and approvals are needed for solar installation?
What permits and approvals are needed for solar installation?
While local regulations vary, electrical and/or building permits may be needed for grid-tied systems. What is net metering, and how does it work?
What is net metering, and how does it work?
Net metering is the process of sending any excess energy produced by your solar system to the grid and getting a credit on your electric bill for that energy. It’s not available in all areas, and the value given to excess solar production can vary, so consulting an expert is advisable.
What is the weight of the solar system on the roof?
What is the weight of the solar system on the roof?
The weight of a solar power system can vary based on the size of the system and the type of solar panels used. On average, a solar panel weighs around 18 kg, so a typical solar power system with multiple panels can weigh hundreds of kilograms. It is important to ensure that your roof is able to support the weight of the solar system, and a professional installer can help you determine this.
Do solar panels work at night or during cloudy weather?
Do solar panels work at night or during cloudy weather?
Solar panels do not produce electricity at night or during cloudy weather. Solar panels rely on sunlight to generate electricity, so their output is reduced on cloudy days and they do not produce any electricity at night. However, a grid-connected solar power system will still provide electricity to your home at night or during cloudy weather by drawing from the grid.
